A pack and play should not be used for a crib.
Cribs are designed to be small beds.
Do not add extra mattresses or soft bedding.
While a play yard does have support a mattress in a crib is made specifically for long term daily use.
Therefore just like beds they are not meant to be disassembled and reassembled easily.
We have a two story home and we keep the bassinet in our room for the first 3 months or so a crib upstairs in the nursery for naps if i m playing upstairs with my older kids and for sleeping after the first few months and the play yard downstairs in the living room.
My son is 2 still can sleep in it in a pinch though.
I think it depends on the baby as well.
Having said that i know lots of people who have used a play yard instead of a crib and baby is just fine.
Pack n play playards are intended for naps and play time but are not intended to replace a crib.
A playpen is if you are going outdoors for several hours it could be for a picnic or camping instead of carrying a crib carry a play pen.
Might be an option if you don t want to shell out a lot of cash on a crib.
