So once the fireplace was framed out and the built in cabinetry installed we had two feet of drywall on the left side of the windows and about 6 visible on the right.

Step 2 cut the metal lath with a utility knife to fit inside the painter s tape so the dimensions of the fireplace are covered both against the wall and on the floor.
I used 1 x 4 pine wood around the tile and mitered it in the corners.
The second wall gives the fireplace dimension.
In the first house the plans didn t account for the depth of the fireplace or built ins on the fireplace wall.
Actually it s not great.
Mark the dimensions of the fireplace against the wall and the footprint of the fireplace on the floor using painter s tape.
This is also a budget project that you can do for just 50 and in a few hours time.
I did have to run the wood through my table saw to thin it out just a hair so that it was the same thickness as the tile.
